Psycho the Hippie Horse

Wow... That's 3 blog posts in 3 days now... But don't worry, I'll make this a relatively quick one...

I came across this drawing in one of my many random tattered pads, and ever since it's been lying around waiting to be put somewhere it won't be covered in tea/ dust/ baby puke. Initially I thought that from this angle it's not quite so obvious how wonky it is, but now I see myself corrected. For some reason I still like it. No idea who this is, by the way. I seem to remember just copying off the picture of some statue or other in a random magazine.

The main point of this post, however, is that this pretty, pretty horse reminded me that I had horsey ideas flying round in my head, so last night Mixmaster Mike took himself off to play skittles and I created Psycho the Hippie Horse:

Psycho the Hippie Horse

This pic doesn't really do him justice. Everytime I look at him I'm more taken with him. He's completely hand-sewn, which I don't normally have enough patience for, but these days it seems easier than getting the sewing machine out. Well, seeing as my sewing machine is usually out, it shouldn't make too much difference, but somehow it's easier to stop and start doing things by hand than stop something sewn by machine, just in case that makes any sense to anybody but myself.

Mike had also ordered me to take a week-long blog reading holiday, which as you can see is paying off already! I'd probably spent all night getting down about all the cool stuff other people come up with instead of making my own cool stuff...

Anzwaz, that's enough, I say!

And the answer is...

UTC. That's the time the poles use. UTC, funnily enough, stands for Coordinated Universal Time. And the reason for this is even funnier:

The International Telecommunication Union wanted Coordinated Universal Time to have a single abbreviation for all languages. English speakers and French speakers each wanted the initials of their respective languages' terms to be used internationally: "CUT" for "co-ordinated universal time" and "TUC" for "temps universel coordonné". This resulted in the final compromise of using UTC.

UTC, by the way, is apparently *almost* the same as Greenwich Mean Time. Only more exact.

The inside of my head

Hello. It seems to take me ages these days to get anything done. I still haven't finished my mum's christmas present! That's the one for last christmas, in case you're wondering. I just keep getting sidetracked by other stuff. Like these. Not that I've made any of them yet. I got... err... sidetracked.

Today I tried to work out timezones in my head. And this occurred to me: what time is it at the poles? When I try to work it out, my head goes all fuzzy. I assume there's some sort of scientific explanation, and knowing Mike, he could probably have a good go at telling me, but hey - why speak to him when he can just read my blog?

Anyways. I've also been up to some exciting things. I discovered swap-bot. And promptly signed up for the beads & buttons matchbox fill one, where you have to - guess what - fill a matchbox with beads and buttons. I took some pics of what I put in as well, but today, just before posting it, I changed my mind and put lots of other stuff in and forgot to take new photos! So now the mystery package is on its way to Canada. How exciting!

The latest bestseller...

I also finally put up the pics of that latest book I made. Somehow I feel like I rushed it a bit. I like the story, but I don't know... It's not my best one. I did try some fancy stitching on the edges this time, though, and I like that. Also, I actually stitched the outside cover on, rather than glueing it. Being the short tempered not very patient bint I am I just hate having to wait for things to dry, so it seemed like a good idea! I think it worked out nicely, and also opens up new decoration possibilities for non-patterned fabrics. Right. That's enough rambling for now. Bye!

Icy randomness

I said, ages ago, that I'm going to put up some pics of the other book I made for the exhibition, but I can't find them now (Dr Mikenstein ran off with them....). So, instead I give you this icy strangeness. It's kinda like an upside down icicle that grew overnight in the sink in my parents' garden. The drips from the tap above must have created this stalagmite-like creature. There's a couple more views here and here.

Happy new year!

so, we just got back from germany today, and i'm still all confused about where my zs and ys are on the keyboard, and also i'm pretty knackered. there were delays on both flights, but for once we managed to catch them both anyways and somehow get home on the same day we'd planned. nils held up remarkably well, sleeping through pretty much everything.

so, as i said, i'm rather tired, and i decided to basically go to bed *right after* nils. it is now almost 10 and i've started blogging. what is it that makes me do this? part of my brain knows perfectly well that the sensible thing to do would be to go to bed. nevertheless here i am, partly because i can't be arsed getting up and brushing my teeth. how bloody stupid is that??

anyways. i hope you all had a good christmas and new year thingee. we went wild on my parent's couch, watching tv *until after midnight*! wahey! you can tell i'm getting old by the fact that i quite enjoyed it.

anyways. i've still got some photos to put up of my latest best-selling novel, but i shall do that tomorrow. i can hear my pillow calling very clearly now.

btw. did i mention that i was tired? i shall go to bed now.

indeed.
